Bacground check

Hi, I have applied for green card 2.5 months ago, and interview is scheduled for May 8th. Since I'm not allowed to work until I get the green card, I signed up to volunteer in a Day Care. It will be good for my resume and future references. Even though I'm only volunteering, background checks are mandatory for everybody who spend time around children. I was wondering if that can affect the process of getting the green card, because I know that employers usually do background checks before hiring an employee, but as I said, I am only volunteering, and my employer can confirm that. It is the nature of that particular position that requires background check.
Thank you!
